Frequently asked questions

My package is $6,500 for Medicare card holders, whether you birth at home or in hospital. I bulk-bill your pregnancy and postnatal visits, so there are no rebates to chase and no extra costs from me, however many visits you need.
If you don't have a Medicare card, the package is $8,000, because I can't bulk-bill your visits.
Tests and scans are separate. Most are Medicare-billed, and any usual gap fees apply.

Based in Bondi, I care for women from North Sydney down to Sans Souci and across to Marrickville. That includes Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Randwick, Maroubra, Paddington, Double Bay, Surry Hills, Newtown, Marrickville, Mascot, Rockdale, Kogarah, Sans Souci and North Sydney.
Not sure if you're in range? Message me and I'll let you know.
-
Yes. I come with you to hospital as your known midwife and advocate. The hospital team provides your clinical care, and I'm beside you the whole way.
I care for you in early labour at home, come in with you, help you understand your options, speak up for your preferences, and stay until you're settled. Then I keep caring for you at home for six weeks. It's not less. It's different.
-
Usually 3–4, depending on how complex each woman's care is and my leave for the year. Keeping it small is what lets me be truly available to you.
-
As early as you can. Spaces often go by 7–8 weeks of pregnancy.
But it's never too late to ask. For some women, their gut instinct kicks in closer to 30 weeks, and changing their care suddenly feels important. There might be a spot waiting just for you.
-
For home births, two midwives attend. Your second midwife is an experienced midwife I trust, and if it's important to you, you can meet her before the big day.
-
It's rare. If I'm unwell or have two births at once, an experienced midwife I trust will come to you and care for you until I can be there.
-
A midwife provides your clinical care: pregnancy checks, tests, your birth at home, and checks on you and your baby afterwards. A doula provides emotional and physical support, but no clinical care.
In hospital, I bring both: the support of someone who knows you, and the knowledge of a midwife with nearly 20 years' experience. Plenty of women have a doula as well, and I love working alongside them.
-
Yes. Complexity doesn't scare me. Anxiety, IVF, being over 40, a medical condition: this is often where a known midwife helps most.
Depending on your history and what comes up, the safest plan may include shared care with an obstetric team, and sometimes a planned hospital birth. My job is to keep your care centred on you, help you understand your options, and stay steady beside you as plans change.
-
Yes. If you're hoping for a vaginal birth after caesarean, we'll look at your history and the evidence together, and plan from there.
-
If an obstetrician is going to be your main carer, my care probably isn't the right fit. The two approaches tend to pull in different directions. If you need an obstetrician's input along the way, though, I'll arrange that consultation and we'll work with them together.
-
Always. Partners are welcome at every visit, and I'll help yours feel prepared and useful on the day. Your kids are welcome too.
-
Homebirth Australia and Homebirth NSW both have excellent resources on the evidence around home birth.
-
Pregnancy and postnatal visits have medicare item numbers, homebirth does not. I bulk bill antenatal and postnatal visits.
